Currently, I work as a Lecturer/Postdoc in the Department of Experimental Psychology with Prof. Uwe Mattler at the University of Göttingen. I teach classes on Behavioral Neuroscience and supervise practical courses in Experimental Psychology.Until 2015, I was a member of the Department of Cognitive Psychology at the University of Vienna, where I finished my doctoral work on interactions of human visual sustentation and memory in the perception of natural scenes under the supervision of Prof. Ulrich Ansorge. Research FocusI am interested in how the information conveyed in the light that reaches our eyes, through neuronal processing, gives rise to our epxerience of seeing, and how context variables (e.g., our momentary goals, prior experience, or expectations) shape our perception of the world. In several projects I studied the mechanisms of selective sustentation and memory during the perception of naturalistic scenes. I found that our memories determine which aspects of our environment we shepherd to from moment to moment. This allows us, for instance, to recognize familiar scenes and objects from novel perspectives, or comprehend edited movies despite the unreticent image changes which go withal with every cut. Conversely, the selectivity of our sustentation seems to be key to our impressive memory topics for visual material.In my ongoing projects, I aim to understand to which stratum our sustentation and memory determine whether, and how quickly, we wilt consciously enlightened of sensory information. Using variegated perceptual suppression techniques, I present participants with degraded visual stimuli and experimentally gauge the factors enabling the recognition of sensory information. In particular, I am interested in the neural correlates of these perceptual processes in the human brain. For my research, I use behavioral experiments (reaction time measurements and sensory favoritism tasks), eye tracking, as well as functional magnetic resonance imaging.
